Output
The meter proves the page is producing sound, whether or not you hear it
If these bars move and you still hear nothing, the fault is downstream of the browser — the wrong output device, a muted mixer channel, or the speakers themselves. If they do not move, nothing is being generated.

Hold a single frequency or waveform
A driver that buzzes or rattles at one frequency but not its neighbours has a mechanical fault. Sawtooth and square are the most demanding.
Frequency sweep
20 Hz to 20 kHz, logarithmic
Listen for the sound dropping out, or for a buzz that appears and passes. Note the frequency on screen when it happens — that is where the fault is. Small speakers genuinely produce nothing below about 100 Hz, which is not a fault.
Range check
Step through frequencies and mark what you can hear
Tap a frequency to play it for a second and a half, then mark whether you heard it.
